Since 1997, Santa has visited Chimney Rock to train for his big night of deliveries. There’s no way he could make it down so many chimneys without practice. What better place to prepare and stay in shape than on one of the world’s largest chimneys at Chimney Rock State Park? Come cheer on Santa, while enjoying holiday tunes, hike with an elf, make some s’mores and meet live Park animal ambassadors.
11am, 12pm, 1pm, & 2pm*
Santa rappels down the Chimney
Santa begins his rappel down Chimney Rock at the top of every hour. Come cheer him on as he prepares for his big night!
*actual times may vary, weather permitting

Guided hike with an elf
Explore the Hickory Nut Falls trail with one of Santa’s helpers. This excursion will give you a better understanding of the flora and fauna that can be found here in the Park as you venture out to the base of one of the tallest and most picturesque waterfalls east of the Mississippi.
Winter Family Animal Encounter
Join one of our Park Naturalists for an informal program where your family will enjoy meeting one of our animal ambassadors. You’ll learn some fun facts about them and the important roles they play in our eco-system.

Photos on Santa’s sleigh
Santa was bummed that he couldn’t do photos with everyone this year. Instead, he left his sleigh parked out front for guests to get pictures or selfies with. The beautiful view of Lake Lure behind it makes for the perfect photo backdrop.
Eddie Cabbage types your letters to Santa
Local poet, Eddie Cabbage, types up your letters or wishlists to Santa on his vintage typewriter. You can keep them as souvenirs, or he can mail them to Santa for you. Leave your return address and you will receive a letter back from Santa!
Local, holiday tunes with John Mason
Take in some soothing, holiday tunes from a hammered dulcimer. Local musician, John Mason, will enamor you with this unique, Appalachian instrument.
Make your own S’mores*
Nothing beats roasting a marshmallow over an open flame during cooler weather. Pick up your s’more making kit and get started making this delicious treat, or simply just warm your paws at our bonfire station.
*S’more kits available for purchase at Cliff Dwellers Gift Shop
Navigate your way through the winter, ice tunnel which transports you up to Santa’s gift shop. Here you can shop for some holiday gifts or souvenirs, enjoy some warm snacks & holiday treats, or just simply take in some spectacular winter views from the deck. ***THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED***
Santa draws a nice crowd to watch him prepare for his big night by
going down our Chimney. With the increasing number of COVID cases in the state, he thinks it’s best if he doesn’t invite a crowd to watch him practice at the Park this weekend. For everyone’s safety and
well-being, Santa has canceled plans for him and his helpers to be with us on Saturday,
Dec. 12 and is going to stay at the North Pole and check his list
twice more. He wants to be sure he’s in good shape to deliver gifts to every boy and
girl who has been good during this challenging year.
