Wildflowers blooming are an indication that spring and warmer weather are right around the corner. This is the perfect opportunity to capture some beautiful images of spring blooms around your home and enter them into our “Blooms & Blossoms” Photo Contest. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos for our contests are usually required to be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park, however, given the current circumstances of COVID-19, we are now changing this rule to allow photos to be taken from your backyard or around your home.
GREAT PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED TO 3 WINNING ENTRIES
- There is no fee to enter the contest. All photographs must be taken by the participant around their home between April 1, 2020 – April 30, 2020.
The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers. Up to three photos per person can be submitted via any of the following ways to be eligible to win:

The journey will take you along the Hickory Nut Falls Trail and down the Four Seasons Trail.

***NC Department of Health and Human Services has recommended that any gathering of more than 100 people be postponed or cancelled to minimize the opportunity for COVID-19 transmission at these events. NC State Parks has decided to cancel all State Park sponsored events through April 30th. Unfortunately, our Easter Sunrise Service falls within this timeframe.
We are saddened that we will not be able to host this traditional event, but the health and safety of the general public is our upmost concern.
At this point, the Park will continue to remain open during its regular hours of operation. We will be monitoring this rapidly changing scenario with its many unknowns and will make changes as deemed necessary. Please check our website for updates as more information becomes available.***
For the past 65 years, Chimney Rock has hosted an annual sunrise service every Easter Sunday in the parking lot at the base of the Chimney overlooking Lake Lure. This year, due to a major construction project that is taking place on the upper parking lot, the service will be moved down the mountain to the Meadows area, just past the Ticket Plaza. The sunrise will still be visible from this location, but the view of Lake Lure will not.
5:30 – 6:15 am – Gates open for visitors with a reserved parking pass
6:15 am – Gates close for admittance
6:30 – 7am – Easter Sunrise Service
After the service, you are welcome to bring your pass or bulletin back to receive complimentary admission when the Park opens at 8:30am. If you are hungry, we will be serving an early breakfast immediately after the service at the Old Rock Cafe near the entrance of the Park.
