Hickory Nut Gorge

Chimney Rock is a part of the spectacular and naturally significant Hickory Nut Gorge, a 20,000-acre, 14-mile-long canyon that cuts a picturesque pass as deep as 1,800 feet through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Abundant in undisturbed forests, waterfalls, and granite cliffs, the Gorge is home to the communities of Gerton, Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and Bill’s Creek. You’ll see vistas of the Gorge from atop the Rock and other points in the Park such as Pulpit Rock. Explore all the Gorge has to offer by visiting the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber website.
