Flock to the Rock Returns September 18

Birdwatching experts and novices alike will enjoy the premiere birding event of the season at Chimney Rock: the 13th Annual Flock to the Rock. The event will feature activities for the whole family, including live, on the glove raptor demonstrations, kid-friendly games and crafts, and the annual Hawk Watch from the Chimney. Guests can explore the Park’s six hiking trails while keeping a close eye on the skies as they learn more about the region’s feathered residents. Chimney Rock is an official stop on the N.C. Birding Trail, so it shouldn’t be hard to spot some of our high-flying friends.

The day begins with an early morning birding walk, led by a local naturalist and bird expert. Guests throughout the rest of the day can enjoy educational programs featuring some of our live animal ambassadors, including owls, hawks and more. Wings to SOAR will also lead special presentations. A count is kept throughout the day of the dozens of migrating species spotted in the Park.

Flock to the Rock is included with paid Park admission, which is $17 for adults, $8 for youth (ages 5-15) and free for kids 4 years and under. The main portion of the event will be from 10am to 3pm. The guided birding walk requires advance registration and is an additional fee.
