2026 Fall Girl Scout Day and Campout

When the days are getting shorter, nights are getting longer, and fall is in the air… That means it’s time for our Fall Girl Scout Day! Join us for a day of adventure and learning. At night, you have the option of camping under the stars and enjoying the friendship of other scouts. Bring your troops out for a unique scouting experience.
Morning Programs
Orientation begins promptly at 9:45am

What a Ranger Does
Did you know that NC State Park Rangers wear many hats, literally? This fun program
will introduce your Scouts to a day in the life of one of Chimney Rock’s Rangers and let
them see for themselves what this job entails. Scouts will have the opportunity to begin
their journey to becoming a Chimney Rock State Park Junior Ranger.

Appalachia Folk Music and Storytelling
Gather ‘round as local storyteller John Fowler shares some amazing tales of
Appalachia, Enjoy John’s performance as he brings history and culture to life through
engaging stories and traditional Appalachian folk music. Your scouts are sure to have a
toe-tapping good time!

Magical Migration
This fun and interactive program introduces the process of
migration and what makes it so magical. Everyone will love learning how species
in their own backyard make an incredible journey in order to survive. At the
end of the program, Scouts will participate in a game that will really bring
the lesson home!

Nocturnal Animals
What kind of animals come out when Chimney Rock closes for the night? Students will
gain knowledge about our native nocturnal species and what makes them all so unique.
Meet a couple of our special animal ambassadors and see the incredible characteristics
of these creatures.
Afternoon Activities

Self Guided Hikes and Discovery Stations
Hike any of our 6 trails which range in difficulty from easy-to-moderately strenuous. As you hike along our remarkable trails, join a trail guide at our discovery stations. They will be strategically placed along our trails. Each station will engage Scouts in a topic
relevant to our Park and the natural world around us. Before you strike out on an adventure, ask our knowledgeable staff which trail is the best fit for you!
Campout Option
The overnight option is designed so you can bring your gear and spend the night!
We provide several community fire rings and wood, but all other essentials are the responsibility of your group. Typically, set-up begins after 4 pm. Depending on the volume of the general public in the area, this can fluctuate a bit. You must be packed up by 9 am the next morning. However, you’re welcome to stay and explore the park some more on Sunday after your site is broken down.
Park staff is onsite throughout the night.
