Jump into a season of outdoor discovery at Chimney Rock!

Shed those winter blues by joining us for a day of learning and adventure at Chimney Rock.  Throughout the morning your students will enjoy participating in hands-on programs. After lunch make plans to stay and explore the park to make your experience complete!

Morning Programs
Orientation begins promptly at 9:45 am

Fast in Flight
Chimney Rock Mountain is home to a nesting pair of rare Peregrine Falcons! Come learn more about their amazing hunting abilities, how to spot one from the ground, and all about their incredible comeback as an endangered species

Mammals 101
There is much more to mammals than being cute and furry! Students will love getting up close and personal with some of our live animal ambassadors and seeing firsthand what characteristics make them unique. Find out what mammal species call Western North Carolina home and discover their habitat needs.

Planet Protectors
Be a part of the solution! Humans can have many positive impacts on the environment. In this program, your students will learn how as they explore the Three Rs: reducing, reusing and recycling. At the end of the program students will race through our obstacle course made from reused materials.

Pollination Station
Bees, butterflies and bats all have something in common. They are all pollinators! Join a naturalist to learn how pollination is the key to life in an ecosystem. Students will discover the many pollinators that call Chimney Rock State Park home and become pollinators themselves during a fun, interactive game.

Afternoon Activities- Begin at 1:30pm

After lunch, take a hike on any of our six trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately strenuous. We will provide a fun scavenger hunt to help you and your students engage with the park along the way. As you hike, look for our naturalists at Discovery Stations near the Chimney and Hickory Nut Falls. Each station will engage students in a topic relevant to the Park and the natural world around us. Before you strike out on an adventure, ask our knowledgeable staff which trail is the best fit for you.

Costs: $14 adult (park admission), no charge for Adult Annual Passholder,
$16 youth (ages 5-15) admission and programs, $10 Youth Annual Passholder.
