Morning Programs
Orientation begins promptly at 9:45 am

Geology ROCKS
Is there a better place to learn about rocks than Chimney Rock? We think not. Students will discover the diverse characteristics of Chimney Rock’s geology. We promise you will have a rockin’ good time.

Nocturnal Animals
What kind of animals come out when the sun goes down? Students will gain knowledge about our native nocturnal species and what makes them all so very unique. Meet a couple of our special animal ambassadors and see the incredible characteristics of these creatures.

Celebrating Snakes
Ever wonder what our reptile friends are doing as the seasons change? Meet some of the Appalachian Mountains native snake species and discover why they play a crucial role in maintaining balance in our natural environment.

Bear Necessities
Join a Park Ranger to begin your adventure into the basics of black bears. What do bears eat? Where do they live? Do they hibernate during the NC winters? And will they attack? Let’s answer these and other common questions about one of the largest mammals in our woods.
Afternoon Exploration
Begins at 1:30pm

Self-Guided Hikes and Discovery Stations
Hike our mountain trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately strenuous.
Look out for park naturalists at two Discovery Stations as you hike. Each Discovery Station will engage students in a topic relevant to the park and the natural world around us.
Before you head out on your adventure, ask our knowledgeable staff which trail is the best fit for you.
