12th Annual Flock to the Rock

Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Cost: Included with Park admission.

Join us for one of our most popular annual events, Flock to the Rock.  This event will have fun, family-friendly birding activities, such as our Bird of Prey programs, education display tables, hawk watches, and guided bird walks. See the schedule and details listed below.

7:30am – 10:00am – Early Bird Walk – The early bird gets…to see and hear early birds! This special bird walk was designed to start before the Park opens to ensure participants get the best chance to encounter a variety of birds. Taking place during fall migration also enhances the number of species expected to be in our area. This hike is considered moderate and is the prelude to our 12th Annual Flock to the Rock event which starts at 10am. Click here to see what birds you might see during your hike.

Limited space available, advance registration is required for this hike. Click here to register.

10am – Birding activity and information tables open on the Outcroppings Deck. Stop by the Outcroppings Deck to learn more about birds that can be found here in Hickory Nut Gorge and our surrounding area during this time of year. There will be activities for the entire family.

10:30am – Beginner Bird Walk – Has 2020 had you and the kids watching the birds? Many people are spending more time outdoors with their families, and it’s a great time to start a new hobby. This pre-registered hike is perfect for all ages.

Limited space available, advance registration is required for this hike. Click here to register.

12:00pm – Radical Raptors – Birds of prey have always fascinated us and are the origin of many legends. Realizing the importance of these predators, and sometimes prey, will help you understand the role they play in our ecosystem. Meet a couple of our special animal ambassadors to see the incredible characteristics of these beautiful creatures.

1pm – 3pm – Hawk Watch on the Chimney – September is prime migration season for birds in this part of the world. Stop by the Chimney to see which ones are flying through. Kevin Burke, with Ventures Birding, will be helping identify these species passing through.

2pm – Radical Raptors – Birds of prey have always fascinated us and are the origin of many legends. Realizing the importance of these predators, and sometimes prey, will help you understand the role they play in our ecosystem.
