Hiking
The Park is a great spot for folks of all ages and
all athletic abilities. Head out on the moderate Hickory Nut Falls trail leading
to the bottom of 404' Hickory Nut Falls. The Great Woodland
Adventure is perfect for families. The Four Seasons
trail winds through hardwood forest and gains 400' in elevation before it connects to the Hickory Nut Falls trail.
Delve into Nature
Our team of Trail Guides can answer questions about
the natural history, geology, flora and fauna of
the Park.
- Groups may book a guided hike with a Trail Guide. One Trail Guide can guide up to 25 people. The amount of time depends on which trail you choose. Cost is $50 per hour.
- Presentations are available that highlight the wonderful natural aspects of the Park.
- Trails programs include Nature, Wildflower, Old Growth Forest and Naturalist workshops, as well as hikes guided by our specialists. Cost: workshop fees apply.
Kids’ Activities
Join Grady the Groundhog and his friends for a fun-filled
day at the Park. Options include: Storytelling,
Arts & Crafts and Nature Programs
with birds, turtles, snakes, groundhogs and other
wildlife. Additional fees apply.
Scavenger Hunt
Divide your group into teams to hunt through the Park
to find answers about the history, geology and trails.
Specific questions can be designed to lead your group
through certain areas of the Park most suitable for
your outing. Cost: $25 per group. Prizes are available for an additional
fee.
Climbing Tower Experience
Try our climbing tower overlooking the Hickory
Nut Gorge. Ideal for guests of all ages. Develop new
skills, learn to cooperate and build self-confidence.
Cost: $80 first hour/$50 each additional hour or portion of an hour; advance registration required.
Group Rock Climbing
Our partners at Fox Mountain Guides offer a complete rock climbing guide service for all groups, family trips, reunions, birthday parties, school trips, church group excursions and scout climbing and rappelling trips as part of the Climbing Merit Badge, or as part of an extended trip anywhere in North Carolina. Discounted group rates start at a minimum booking of seven clients, and we offer a range of possibilities including full- and half-day bookings.
Music
Our featured hammered dulcimer player, John Mason, is friendly, lighthearted and takes requests. Cost: $300 for three hours.
Itineraries
There's a lot to do and see in Hickory Nut Gorge and
the surrounding area — including a guided boat
tour of Lake Lure.
