Asheville NC Rock Climbing at Chimney Rock Park

Jeremy Devine, Climbing Director for Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, NC

Meet Our Rock Climbing School Director

We’re excited to introduce Jeremy Devine, our new Climbing School Director. An instructor with our partners Fox Mountain Guides, Jeremy can be found in the Park every weekend at Vista Rock. Guests can try a 15-minute “taster” or book 2-hour, full-day or half-day clinics.

With eight years of personal rock climbing experience, Jeremy turned his passion into a career five years ago when he started guiding others, introducing them to the excitement of scaling cliffs.

Originally from the Northeast, his experience includes extensive climbing in New Hampshire, Vermont and New York, including 800-foot walls of granite and 200-foot frozen waterfalls. Jeremy also guided in California’s Joshua Tree National Park before heading back East. Now established here in Western North Carolina, he is happy to call the Blue Ridge Mountains home.

First and foremost, Jeremy considers himself an educator. He finds the outdoor classroom frees us from distraction and allows ample opportunity for growth and self-reflection. Over the years he has polished his teaching skills in other sports including snowboarding, mountain biking, sea kayaking, backpacking, wilderness survival, orienteering and high ropes course instruction. Jeremy is always striving to further his knowledge by developing innovative practices and incorporating existing methods.

Jeremy holds his Single Pitch Instructor Certification from the American Mountain Guides Association. He is also a trained EMT and certified Wilderness First Responder. An Eagle Scout, he studied biology at St. Michael’s College in Vermont and earned his Coastal Kayak Level II Coach award from the American Canoe Association.
