Marketing Internships
Learn the inner workings of a marketing department and an entire organization. Opportunity 1: Public Relations/Promotions
Chimney Rock Park markets to certain niche audiences. An internship in PR/Promotions would include research for media outlets that will help build publicity for the Park, adding to the existing database for these specific markets and learning to develop promotional materials to send. You will have personal contact with outside individuals and assist in telephone and email follow-up. You may also interact with guests, give tours, help with special events and be involved in regional tourism promotions.
Opportunity 2: Niche Sales – Children’s Market
You will learn how to research and develop a database for promoting children's programs to groups and individual families. You will work with the Sales Team to develop a contact database of schools, camps and scouts to raise awareness of upcoming events and new programs. Duties will include working with the Marketing Team to help create promotional and sales materials and to help execute the promotion for these specific areas. You may also be asked to give tours, help with special events, assist with telephone and email inquiries and visit the different contacts.
Opportunity 3: General Group Sales
Work with Group Sales/Marketing Team in reaching target niche markets to increase sales. Duties include research of target markets, development of promotional materials, contacting clients, writing contracts and follow-up. Opportunities will include helping with booking, confirmation of and set-up for group functions, site inspections, assisting in telephone and email campaigns and attending regional tourism meetings.
Opportunity 4: Graphic Design and Publishing
Take your design skills to the next level. Learn the how’s and why’s of effective marketing tools and create thought-provoking promotional/advertising materials including print ads, posters, signage, web pages and presentations.
Basic understanding of at least several of the below applications is recommended:
- Adobe software including: Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat
- Publishing software including: QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign
- Web software including: Dreamweaver, Flash
- Microsoft Office software including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
