2024 Summer Homeschool Day and Family Campout
Get ready for a summer adventure at Chimney Rock!
Wednesday, July 24 – Thursday, July 25, 2024
Learning and adventure are year-round at Chimney Rock! Gather your homeschool crew and head out to the park for a day of hands-on programs, interactive discovery stations, and more. Plus, join us for an optional campout under the stars to complete the day.
Morning Programs –
Orientation begins promptly at 9:45 am
Bug Out
Bugs are yuck, right? Wrong! We love our bugs and all the benefits that come with them. Discover how they play vital roles both locally and throughout the world. Students will put their insect knowledge to the test with an interactive game.
Threats and Thorns
All animals and plants have adaptations that help them survive in their environment. This interactive program focuses on the ones that could be harmful to humans. Students will learn why dangerous adaptations exist, how to identify them, and what to do in case of an emergency.
Rockin’ Reptiles and Epic Amphibians
Reptiles and amphibians are often confused for one another, but the differences between these two groups of mysterious animals are vast and intriguing. Your homeschoolers will join our team to investigate these fascinating creatures.
Outdoor Ethics
We all love spending time outside, but how can we show respect for our surroundings on our adventures? This fun program will expand on your existing knowledge and give your homeschoolers the tools they need to plan for outdoor activities and lessen negative impacts on the planet.
Afternoon Options- Begin at 1:30pm
After lunch, take a hike on any of our six trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately strenuous. Before you strike out on an adventure, ask our knowledgeable staff which trail is the best fit for you. Or, head down to Chimney Rock Village to explore the shops and River Walk.
Campout Option
Join us for our first ever Homeschool Day Campout! The overnight option is designed so you can bring your gear and spend the night under the stars with your family.
We provide several community fire rings and wood, but all other essentials are the responsibility of your group. Typically, set-up begins after 4 pm. Depending on the volume of the general public in the area, this can fluctuate a bit. You must be packed up by 9 am the next morning. However, you’re welcome to stay and explore the park some more on Sunday after your site is broken down.
Park staff is onsite throughout the night.
